Tomatoes are the quintessential summer vegetable, having a place in every vegetable garden in Britain. For best results tomatoes should be grown in a protected structure such as a polytunnel or greenhouse, but if you don’t have anything suitable don’t give up; it is worth growing tomatoes outdoors – yields will be lower, but few tomatoes is still better than no tomatoes at all.
